Dr. Josef Hadeed answered five questions in writing

What separates a surgeon who treats lipedema from one who does liposuction?

“Liposuction for cosmetic reasons involves soft fatty tissue, whereas liposuction for lipedema involves treating tissue that is fibrotic, fragile, and vascular. The goal of cosmetic liposuction is an improved appearance to the treated area. The goal of lipedema liposuction is not only an improved appearance, but symptom reduction and functional improvement. A good lipedema surgeon will not debulk the extremity, but rather sculpt it.”

About this practice

Plastic and reconstructive surgery practice with offices in Beverly Hills, CA and Miami, FL, offering lymph-sparing VASER-plus-PAL lipedema surgery with structured aftercare including MLD and hyperbaric oxygen.

Lipedema is not "just fat." It is a real medical condition and never a failure of diet or willpower. Too many of our patients arrive after years of being dismissed, told to lose weight for a condition that doesn't respond to diet or exercise. Our practice starts by validating that experience, then treating the disease itself. But we don't start with the operating room. We start by listening to what a patient has already tried, what she's hoping to get back, and what pain or limitation has shaped her daily life. Our goal is to restore mobility and comfort, and to finally offer the validation that what she's living with is real, treatable, and not her fault. Surgically, we primarily use PAL techniques to remove diseased lipedema tissue while preserving healthy lymphatic structures, minimizing trauma, and sculpting results built around how lipedema actually behaves in the body. The goal is not just debulking, but reshaping the extremity. Recovery is treated with the same level of care as the surgery itself. Our protocol includes manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) to support healthy fluid movement and reduce swelling, hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBO) to accelerate tissue healing, and photobiomodulation therapy to ease discomfort and support recovery at the cellular level, all designed to help patients heal fully, not just quickly.
